On a Monday morning, wouldn’t it be cool to come into work and find your boss playing music to the entire office? How about if everyone had a turn to play their favorites and co-workers would decide how lame or awesome the songs were?! That’s exactly what happened here at Caffeine Interactive.
Using the new social media music experience, turntable.fm, our employees instantly sparked debates about artists and genres then took to the Caffeine DJ Room to start scratching their records (I’m told that used to be a hip thing to say). Learn more about it here.
From the cubicle of an intern, I found this was a great way to get to know my coworkers. Who would have thought that your boss wanted to listen to Jay-Z?! The music we were playing became a powerful social interaction where we could really expose part of our personality.
Call us the office of multi-taskers. While sitting at our desks, we were able to complete the day’s work while also communicating aspects of who we are. Some people were more interested in classic rock and others preferred alternative. Even better was when a few got kicks out of songs like “Who let the dogs out?” or “She bangs!” (the William Hung version of course). Chuckles were heard around the office. I, however, was told that Third Eye Blind was such college music! Either way, it was a way to relate to your coworkers and gain insights into their interests that may have never come up in casual conversation.
Say goodbye to gathering around the water cooler, there is no longer a need to force face-to-face interactions just to get to know the person sitting next to you. But, hey! Isn’t that the epitome of social media?
Rock on, Caffeine. Rock on.
